Burmester B18 Floorstanding Loudspeaker | 2.5-Way High-End Tower Speaker
The B18 traces its roots to Burmester Audiosysteme’s founding in 1977 by Dieter Burmester, a musician and engineer who built the company on hand-assembled high-end electronics and a long-lifecycle approach to engineering. The B18 carries that philosophy into the B-Series loudspeaker range.
The B18 descends from Burmester’s first standmount, the B10, which introduced the bass and mid/bass drivers that were later carried up into this floorstander. In 2022 it was refreshed to match the B28 and B38, gaining a screwless front baffle and a cleaner, more domestic look. It is the most compact floorstander in the B-Series, so it suits real living spaces without giving up Burmester’s signature sound.
Design & Engineering
The B18 is a front-ported 2.5-way bass-reflex design. It pairs a bespoke Burmester ring radiator tweeter with a low-mid driver and a mid-woofer. The ring radiator was developed exclusively for Burmester, in place of the company’s usual air motion transformer ribbon tweeter, and delivers transparency and detail in the treble. The woofer and mid/woofer are refined versions of the proven B10 drivers, with glass-fiber cones for fast, controlled bass.
The cabinet is built from MDF panels over 30mm thick, with an aluminum panel reinforcing the midrange and treble section. A sandwich-constructed base made from high-molecular-weight polymer and other damping materials decouples the speaker from the floor, and a foam cylinder adds mechanical damping. A rear bass switch lets you tune low-frequency output to your room and taste. Finishes are high-gloss white or high-gloss light walnut, with silver anodized front elements.
