Snell Heritage, High-Efficiency Magic.
The Audio Note AN-E/SPe HE is a high-efficiency two-way loudspeaker from Audio Note UK. It is built around a philosophy that puts musical life and emotional connection ahead of technical spectacle. The AN-E traces its roots to the classic Snell Acoustics Type E designed by the late Peter Snell. Audio Note founder Peter Qvortrup revived and refined the design under his own banner with better cabinets, drivers and crossovers. It is now one of the most respected speakers in the world of tube and low-powered amplification.
The “HE” designation means this model uses Audio Note’s Higher Efficiency woofers, which raise sensitivity to around 98dB. That makes the AN-E/SPe HE a perfect partner for single-ended triode (SET) and other low-wattage tube amplifiers: it needs as little as 7 watts to come alive. The sound is coherent, dynamic and full of inner detail, with remarkable scale for a stand-mounted speaker.
Design & Engineering
The AN-E pairs an 8-inch paper/hemp paper woofer with a 1-inch impregnated silk-dome tweeter. Every pair of drivers goes through Audio Note’s rigorous dynamic driver matching. The cabinet is made from high-quality birch ply with real wood veneer and minimal bracing, so it works with the drivers like the body of a musical instrument. Its wide baffle and shallow, rear-ported cabinet are designed for corner or near-wall placement, where the room reinforces the bass for deep, authoritative low end. A simple, hardwired first-order crossover and premium internal wiring keep the sound seamless and expressive.
