The Apogee Centaur Major marked a turning point for the brand as its first hybrid loudspeaker, blending a dynamic bass driver with Apogee’s iconic ribbon technology. A 10″ cone woofer handles the low frequencies from a substantial enclosure, while a towering 40″ aluminium/Kapton ribbon takes care of the midrange and highs. The result is a sound that combines physical bass weight with the speed, openness, and transparency Apogee ribbons are famous for.
Designed as a true dipole, the ribbon tweeter is mounted on the inner edge of each speaker, creating a spacious and immersive soundstage that thrives with plenty of room to breathe. Nearly as imposing as the Duetta Signatures, the Centaur Majors are unapologetically large and visually striking. While they can play with modest amplification, they truly shine when paired with a high-quality, high-current amplifier, rewarding the listener with scale, control, and effortless musicality.
